Why We Created Gray House Studio
Our story began over 10 years ago when we worked together as web design interns in high school in Waco, Texas. Five years after going our separate ways for college, we reconnected over dinner and started dating long distance. A year after that we got married and lived in Norman, Oklahoma for a year while Brent finished grad school.
In 2013 we moved to Houston and purchased our first home. While our house was nice, it was basic and plain. We quickly found that we enjoyed spending our weekends together designing and building DIY projects that would make our home unique to us and our needs.
In 2014 we began this blog, Gray House Studio, as a way of documenting our DIY home renovation projects while we are in the process of transforming our cookie cutter house in the suburbs into our dream home one project at a time.
After working on our blog for a few months, we learned there is an amazing and supportive community of DIY-ers out there and decided to expand our site to share tutorials and free plans for our projects so that others could build them as well.
We love connecting with other makers and our hope for the blog is to inspire and encourage others to build, make, and create unique spaces in their home that they truly love.
The process of dreaming up ideas for our home, bringing those ideas to life and then enjoying the spaces together is what we love most about Gray House Studio.
The journey to creating your perfect home and the memories that come along the way are what make DIY projects so fulfilling.
Our team also includes a Gray House Studio intern (our son born in October of 2016) and Jake the studio cat. You might see both from time to time here on the blog.
We are so happy to have you following along!
